The article examines internet shutdowns against the three requirements of Article 19(2) of the Indian Constitution – legality, legitimacy and reasonableness. After examining the legal framework as well as various judgments & orders rendered in the Indian context, the article concludes by identifying the factors that courts should use in evaluating the constitutional validity of internet shutdowns.
